How We Started

Discovering Pearls was originated, when the Founder’s daughter, witnessed a drive by shooting while coming out of after school activities. Fortunately, no one was hurt in that incident. However, that was the week after a very similar situation happened at a High School, and the fate was very different. I child lost his life. There became an urgency to do something. It was at that point a mentoring program came to mind. Mentoring does not stop the violence, but it can help these ladies navigate these situations and develop them as leaders, while they discover who they are and find their voice.

Discovering Pearls Mentoring is a female-led, nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing resources, mentoring and counseling services to at-risk teenage girls. We endeavor to empower young females to become the best versions of themselves and to live their lives to their fullest potential. Our mission is to help young ladies understand that no experience is wasted, everything happens for a reason, and that the challenges they face in life will help them to develop into pearls - valuable, precious gems. Our vision is for young females to take pride in themselves and who they are, while helping them to navigate through everyday challenges in life. It is our hope that through Discovering Pearls Mentoring, teenage girls will become inspired to believe that they are individually and collectively pearls, and they will recognize how important and valuable they are.
